IMQ offers physicians a convenient service to record and verify the AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ required by the Medical Board of California’s (MBC) for re-licensure. The current MBC requirement is 50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ in a two-year period.
New! CME Certification subscribers now can view and print their CME transcripts. Just click on the CME Certification Log-In button at the bottom of this page.
The CME Certification service is voluntary, and reporting is not mandated by the MBC. Each physician is responsible for maintaining CME records and must produce the documentation if audited. The Medical Board will accept IMQ verification of CME credits, with no additional documentation, for any physician using the CME Certification service.
The CME Certification service helps physicians demonstrate to the public their dedication to high-quality medical care through a commitment to lifelong learning. The service is designed for:
- Any physician with a California license no matter where they live in the world
- California-licensed physicians seeking an easy way to track their earned CME credits or a backup for maintaining CME records
Residents and fellows receive 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per year but are not required to report them. IMQ recommends using the CME Certification service beginning the year following completion of your residency or fellowship.
CME Certification service users must submit a fee along with the completed form listing the courses earning CME credit. CMA members, including retired physicians who maintain membership, receive a discount on the CME Certification service. Current fees for each year reported are: $33 for CMA members and $57 for non-CMA members.
The IMQ reporting form defines the AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ requirements, including the maximum number of credits for different types of activities.
