OVERVIEW
IMQ’s Ambulatory Program accredits a wide range of entities, including ambulatory surgery centers, student health centers, occupational health centers, medical offices/medical groups and other outpatient settings. The program offers facilities a practical, meaningful and cost effective method for ensuring quality health care and achieving accreditation.
Effective in 1996 with the passage of AB595, any setting, ranging from solo or small group practices to large multi-service ambulatory centers, administering anesthesia “in doses that have the probability of placing a patient at risk for loss of the patient’s life-preserving protective reflexes” must be accredited by a recognized accreditation entity, licensed by the Department of Health Services or obtain Medicare certification. IMQ’s Ambulatory Program is recognized by the Medical Board of California.
IMQ’s Ambulatory Program is designed to promote quality care and assure compliance with government regulations. The standards, developed by California physicians practicing in the ambulatory setting, meet the specific needs of California facilities. The essential standards for Administration, Personnel/Credentialing, Quality Management, Medical Records, Care and Treatment and Surgical, Invasive Procedures and Anesthesia Services ensure compliance with California Health and Safety Code 1248 (AB 595) and other California laws and regulations. In addition, the physicians also examined existing standards and community practice to ensure appropriateness in developing the standards.
The program provides California facilities and physicians the opportunity to be reviewed by peers who are familiar with issues specific to California medical practices. On site educational consultation and assistance are offered throughout the accreditation process.
Accreditation by IMQ is recognized by many liability carriers, workers’ compensation and insurers as well as the Medical Board of California. Further Background Information |
